2021 Ford Mustang Mach 1 Front View

Seventeen years since the last Mach 1 Mustang, Ford have unveiled their new pony car set to fill the gap between the Mustang GT and Shelby GT350. The formula combines a V8 engine derived from the GT, various chassis and handling upgrades from the GT350 and new aero and styling elements. Visually the Mach 1 has new front and rear bumper designs, wheels and stickers. buyers will have the choice of an optional handling package that includes different wheel design, a rear wing and larger front splitter.

The 5.0L V8 engine has been tuned to deliver more power than the Mustang GT, with a total of 487 PS (358 kW) of power and 420 lb-ft (569 Nm) of torque at 4,500 rpm. This uptick in performance is thanks to a new intake manifold, cooling system and ECU. Transmission choices remain the same with a six-speed manual and ten-speed automatic available. The manual gets a short shift kit with auto-blip function, and the auto has been updated with a bespoke calibration.

“Bold styling, great acceleration and speed – Mach 1 says it all,” said Jim Farley, Ford’s chief operating officer. “This is one of those special Mustangs that truly brings a smile to the faces of our owners, enthusiasts and fans – including me – so there’s never been a better time to bring back Mach 1 and have it go global too.”
